A simple daily routine for healthy teeth
Five habits that do most of the work — and take only a few minutes a day.

Most dental problems start with plaque — a sticky layer of bacteria that forms on teeth every day. The good news: a short daily routine keeps it under control.
1. Brush twice a day for two minutes
Brush in the morning and before bed with a soft brush and fluoride toothpaste. Use small, gentle circles and reach every surface, including along the gum line. Hard scrubbing doesn’t clean better and can hurt the gums.
2. Clean between your teeth once a day
A toothbrush can’t reach between teeth. Use floss or interdental brushes once a day — this is where many cavities and gum problems begin.
3. Spit, don’t rinse
After brushing, spit out the extra toothpaste but avoid rinsing heavily with water, so the fluoride can keep working.
4. Watch how often you have sugar
Every sugary snack or drink gives bacteria a chance to make acid. Keep sweets to mealtimes and choose water between meals.
5. Keep regular check-ups
Early cavities and gum problems are often painless. Regular check-ups and professional cleaning find them while treatment is simple.
Tip: if your gums bleed when you brush, don’t stop — clean gently and regularly, and ask your dentist to check them.
